The BU Editorial

Virginia Zurflieh, editor

Boxer Cardiomyopathy, ad infinitum
Let’s see: this issue of the BU features an analysis of the current CM crisis in the UK (the guest editorial, by Sheila Bowman); a proposal for “testing” for CM by tracking the stud dog’s progeny (“Cardiomyopathy,” by UK geneticist Bruce Cattanach); “Reflections on Owning a Stud Dog in the Age of BCM,” by yours truly; and two appeals – for ABCF membership and Purina program participation – from the American Boxer Charitable Foundation. This didn’t start out to be the “BU BCM Issue,” but it seems to have turned out that way. I guess that’s not surprising, considering that the topic has got to be at the forefront of the mind of anyone who’s seriously breeding boxers today.

Kudos to the ABC Board of Directors…
for swiftly and efficiently correcting a mistake in the nomination process for the 2005 ABC Specialty and Futurity judges. And speaking of our national specialty, check out Sandy Orr’s suggestions for finding a centrally located show site. In the meantime, start making your plans for the 2004 ABC Specialty & Futurity at the Drawbridge Inn in Kentucky. Is it centrally located? Well, no, we’re not in the center of the country yet, but it is a terrific site, and with an absolutely stellar lineup of judges (Stephanie Abraham – Bitches & BOB; Tim Hutchings – Dogs; Mel Holloman – Futurity) you’d better make your reservations early.

Feature YOUR Boxer’s ABC Win or Placement in the BU
As always, the BU will be offering free “ads” for ABC wins or placements in the Futurity, Specialty, Obedience, and Agility. Also for all the winners of the ABC Annual Awards (Most Puppy Blues, Best Jr Handler, etc.). We accept electronic or original photos, which Pat will scan and return. We hope to see you (winning!) at the ABC!
