I was asked to forward the below message from Connie.
I want to thank everyone for their support, prayers, donations and offers of
help to the Rescues in our area. The response to our situation has been
overwhelming as is the situation itself.
I would like to let everyone know of our immediate condition. Our entire
group has 4 foster homes currently housing Boxers, for a total of
24 in all. The majority of those are in Baton Rouge. Most of our Boxers
are fully vetted and ready for homes. We have 2 ,I think that need HW
treatment an 3 that are possible mixes. The balance are adoptable and ready
to go.
We have received numerous donations and many offers to help transport. We
are ready to transport when the need arises. We have not decided yet when
that will be. Gas prices are soaring but thanks to the donations this is
not an issue. We have the funds for gas. We do not feel an immediate need
to move the boxers we have. They are all safe and well cared for right now.
Our concern of course is the influx of homeless or surrendered Boxers that
will most certainly begin to come in once people begin to move back to the
city and try to rebuild. I expect also an influx from Alabama and Miss. as
well. We will be prepared to take on whatever is sent our way and that is
when we will have to coordinate our transports. There has been some thought
to move some of ours this weekend so that we have room when they start
coming in. We feel this would possibly be a problem with all the evacuees
being moved out. We do not want to get on the highway and hinder that
effort if we do not have to.
All donations being sent for hurricane relief are being set aside for the
Boxers that are transported or that come in to us in the aftermath. I
expect those numbers to be high. I have already received 2 calls from
adopters that have lost everything. One needs to place her 2 and one needs
temporary fostering until she finds a place to live. We have placed
hundreds in the New Orleans and surrounding areas and I am sure that many of
them have lost everything.
I cannot thank all of you enough for your offers to help and we will need
it. So please stand by, pardon our chaos, trust we will do what is best for
our boxers and pray that we can help the displaced families along the way.
ABRA, BRF ABC and others have been so supportive of their Boxer friends and
I know I speak for everyone in the Louisiana, Miss. and Alabama regions when
I say Thank You for everything.
I will be in touch with T.H. as my main contact to help coordinate efforts
when we are ready to move.
Thank you all again and again.
