The ABCF Auction at ABC

“Wendy’s Auction”

It's time for ABC and that means that the American Boxer Charitable Foundation is gearing up for its 11h Annual Auction.

The night will be Tuesday, May 9th and everyone is invited. This year, we are honored to dedicate our 11th Annual Auction to the memory of Wendy Wallner, DVM, our "Dr. Boxer."

On March 13th, Wendy lost a valiantly fought battle against breast cancer and her loss is palpable to all who knew her.

In life, her devotion to our breed was uppermost in her mind at all times. She was a member of the Foundation board of directors since its inception and tirelessly supported the Auction every year.

When she knew death was imminent, again Wendy's thoughts turned to the Foundation and she made sure that it was provided for in her will.  In addition, she wanted the two paintings that she had successfully bid on at last year's auction to be re-donated to the auction this year.  At her request, “Sparkplug” from the Larry Downey Estate and “Jam” from Charlotte Brayshaw's kennel will be auctioned again in Wendy's memory this year.

The real “star” of the auction, however, will be a wonderful, life-size Traci Hardesty copper piece, commissioned by Tracy Hendrickson to honor the memory of her friend. This one-of-a kind work of art was modeled after Wendy’s beloved “Camille,” the dark brindle bitch that Wendy finished from Bred-by, and was able to cheer on to Best Veteran Bitch at last year’s ABC. Wendy remembered the beautiful copper piece that Traci had created for last year’s ABCF Auction, and was very proud that a moving boxer modeled on Camille would be offered at auction in her memory. When friends visited Wendy just days before her death, she turned to Camille and said, “Oh Camille, you’re going to be a star!”

Members of ABC and ABCF should be getting their invitations this week (April 17th). Anyone who wants to receive an invitation can get one on our website (http://www.abcfoundation.org/ ) or they may call me. As always, we welcome everyone who is coming to ABC at the Drawbridge to join us. But this year we ask you to join us in celebrating the life of a very special woman by supporting the Foundation she loved and the breed she lived for.

I will soon be posting donations to “Wendy’s Auction” to the boxer email lists – if you have an item that you plan to offer at auction, please send me a written description or, better yet, a picture so everyone can see some of the items we have available for auction this year!  After being posted, they will be placed on our Website so people can check them out!

Of course, we will again welcome Bidders Only! This is for those who don't want to come to the buffet dinner but want to bid. Last year, boxer people came in droves and made for a night of great camaraderie and spirited bidding.

Remember, every dollar we raise is matched dollar-for-dollar by the AKC Charitable Health Foundation, which doubles our money!  Thank you for your help and support.
