Getting Ready for the ABC
This year, thanks to ABC webmaster, Judy Voran, all you need to do to
finalize your ABC plans is surf on over to the ABC web site and click on
"ABC News": http://americanboxerclub.org/abctbc/abcfrx.html
Judy has recently added the May 3 – May 9 ABC schedule, a link to the RV
reservation form, and information about the Doppler echo exams (only $125)
being offered at the ABC by veterinary cardiologist Dr. Daniel Hogan of
Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In other words,
Everything You Always Wanted to Know about the ABC, But Didn’t Know
Where to Look. J Let’s hear it for Judy
Voran!!!
Jim Kilman would like to remind all ABC attendees
who have reservations at the Abbey, or those intending to make
reservations, to be sure to mention that your stay is in conjunction
with the ABC. The club is under contract for a minimum number of rooms.
Mention that you will be attending the ABC and help the club avoid being
charged for rooms reserved but not used. If you aren't sure you mentioned
the ABC when you made the reservation contact the Abbey and let them know
ASAP.
Speaking of Heart Testing…
Please note: Dr. Kate Meurs is now accepting and reading Holter tapes
from ALL boxer breeders (not just the participants in her studies), and
has provided instructions and a submittal form for this service. BU
webmaster Pat Mullen has converted the two pages into PDF documents for
ease of use. You will find links to the form and instructions on the BU
Health Tested Boxers page and the Links
page. We boxer breeders are very fortunate indeed
to have this fast, inexpensive service available to us from one of the
leading researchers in the field, and should be very grateful to both Dr.
Meurs and to the American Boxer Charitable Foundation, which provides
ongoing funding for Dr. Meurs’ research.
MORE ABC Health Program Information:
Thanks to Dr. Bill Truesdale, president of the American Boxer
Charitable Foundation,
Dr. Ted Fickes, chair of the ABC Health Committee (HRC), and Dr. Joyce
Campbell, HRC member extraordinaire, there will be a full slate of health
seminars at ABC for your "learning pleasure." PLEASE NOTE:
Several of these seminars had to be scheduled at the last minute and do
NOT appear in the premium list.
1. On Sunday, May 4, at 2:00 PM, Dr. Natasha Olby of NC State University
will speak on Degenerative Myelopathy.
2. Noted geneticist Dr. Jerome Bell will give his presentation later in
the week (please see the ABC Schedule on the ABC website for time and
place).
3. Last but NOT least, Dr. Kate Meurs of Ohio State University, recipient
of several ongoing ABCF research grants, will make a special report to the
membership at 7:00 PM – one hour before the annual membership meeting
– on Wednesday!!! This is going to be a "DON'T MISS" event!
See you at the ABC!!! |
