ABCF AUCTION 2003

Help Us Help Our Boxers!

The American Boxer Club’s National Show at Lake Geneva, May 3-9, will be the biggest Boxer show of the year. Each day, and in each class, the competition is stiff. The dogs look their best, the handlers step a bit livelier and the owners wring their hands, hold their breath and hope for the "chance of a lifetime"…to win at ABC. What "hot" new prospect will be discovered and who will win? Nerves and egos tend to come to the fore during these hectic days because everyone wants to win.

This year, to add to the excitement of hundreds of dogs competing, is the Parade of Champions, which will give people a chance to observe some of the dogs they have never had the chance to see. There will be activity and excitement in every nook and cranny of The Abbey. It’s a magical time.

But, on the evening of Tuesday, May 6, at 7 p.m., it’s AUCTION TIME! The ABCF Auction is the Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year and we don’t want you to miss out!

For that night, the egos are left behind and the only competition will be the "two-legged" kind in the form of bidders, bidding for treasures and helping our Boxers. The bidding will keep the room active and exciting from about 8:15 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Last year’s Auction raised over $28,000, all of which was used to fund research into the health issues facing our Boxers.

There are two ways you can help the Auction:

DONATE: You can donate. We love Boxer-related items but we’ve also found that other items sell well too. Look around and see if you can’t possibly give something up. How about parting with one of your treasures and making room for a new one. Recycle! We have items in all price ranges from $3 to over $2,500 so we can use whatever you are willing to give up. If you can’t think of anything to donate, baskets of various items are wonderful at the Auction. For instance a garden basket with seeds, gloves, little trowels…a chocolate basket....a tea basket…a wine or beer basket…a soap basket…a dog basket with dog goodies…whatever you can think of. Everyone can get a basket or tin and fill it with creative items. We also have some talented people who create popular items that are always crowd pleasers! The more items we have, the more likely it is that everyone can go home with at least one item.

ATTEND: Plan to attend the Auction and enjoy a complimentary glass of champagne and a lovely dinner with friends. If you want to make up a table of friends, the tables are for 8. If you don’t have anyone to sit with, we’ll find a table for you. The cost is $50 a person. It makes a grand evening of fun to try to outbid your dear friends for something that you both covet. That’s when the fun really begins. Remember…"friends don’t let friends outbid them!"

BIDDERS ONLY: If you want to bid but don’t want to have the dinner, come to the Auction at about 8 p.m., get your bidding number, check out the Loud and Silent Auction tables and join in the fun. This group took home more than their share of "loot" the past two years and they are not a bit shy about bidding loud and long. They have added to the festivity and fundraising element of the evening and we love to have them join us. The more the merrier!

Since the Auction is our largest fundraiser, these are the people that really help the Foundation with a large part of our funding. They donate items and/or they bid. Many do both. Supporting the Foundation is supporting our breed. Help us help our breed and have fun doing it. It’s all about fun and all about fundraising. We ask you to make plans to come to the Auction and support the breed that gives us its all.

Since we will have such a large crowd at ABC this year, you would be smart to make your reservations early. If you are an ABC member, you will be receiving an invitation in the mail. If not, please feel free to contact Sharon Fosseen for more information or to make your reservations. (We accept credit cards.) Put together a table of friends and then….outbid them! Does it get any better than that?

If you are not coming to ABC and don’t know anyone who is, but you have something you would like to donate, we have contacts that can help you get your item(s) to ABC.
