THE BU EDITORIAL

Virginia Zurflieh, editor
This editorial is going to be pretty sketchy, with most of the news and
views from ABC contained in articles and photos throughout this issue. If
you’re interested in boxer health, be sure to read the summaries of the
three ABC health seminars. In them, you’ll find Dr. Meurs’ SAS
"bombshell," new info on ARVC (was BCM/FVA) and a few
"consciousness-raising" statistics (derived from a brief survey
of the ABC Catalog) that relate to Dr. Bell’s seminar on canine
genetics. AND…THE LONG-AWAITED VIDEOTAPES OF THE SEMINARS ARE NOW
AVAILABLE!!! Ordering information.
Non-ABC: Brand New OTCH Boxer!
We just learned from one of the obedience lists that Tracy Hendrickson’s
homebred "Carmelita" is now OTCH Sunchase's No Spiked
Heels. She finished on Sunday, July 27 (going in with 99 points),
and was first in UT B adding 6 more points and her title. Carmelita
is trained and co-owned by Larrie Moody from Pittsburg, KS.
At 9 ˝ years young, she is the second OTCH boxer in breed
history. Congratulations to all!

Motel Rooms versus Motorhomes
I definitely came away from the membership meeting this year with the
impression that the motorhome parking at next year’s venue – the
Drawbridge Inn in Kentucky – was going to be woefully inadequate. Many
ABC members voted for the Drawbridge over the other Kentucky/Ohio area
motel because the Drawbridge had better access to a major airport.
However, after seeing 81+ RVs crammed into several parking lots at The
Abbey, and hearing that there may be on-site parking for only a little
over HALF that number at the Drawbridge, that would appear to have been a
b-a-a-a-d choice (not that there were any good ones). Seems that while no
one was looking, RVs have completely taken over the dog show scene,
leaving the ABC Show Site Committee behind the learning curve yet again.
Thankfully, the committee is planning to revisit the show site criteria
this year. We hope RV parking will be at the head of the list!
