THE ABBEY AT
LAKE GENEVA, WISCONSIN
NEW HOME
OF THE 2002 ABC
Virginia Zurflieh, ed
At the 2001 ABC in Frederick,
Pat and I met the two representatives from The Abbey who had come to Frederick to see what
was involved in hosting an ABC Specialty, and to make a presentation to the board and
membership. At that time, we told Vicki Jacobs, Senior Sales Manager for Abbey Group
Resorts, that if the ABC Board and The Abbey came to terms on the 2002 specialty, we
wanted to do a feature article on The Abbey for our ABC Issue. As everyone now knows, we
will be at The Abbey in 2002, so heres the results of a Q & A session with Vicki
Jacobs. Vicki also sent us several sample Abbey menus, which weve published here,
and is working with their marketing department to get us some new photos of various areas
of The Abbey that dont appear on their web site (http://www.abbeygroupresorts.com). Those
photos will be added to this article as soon as we receive them.

BU: We
understand that guests must pay for the entire reserved stay if they dont cancel by
a certain date, but what exactly is that time frame -- 30 days? 72 hours?
VJ: Regarding your question
about cancellation, etc. -- no-shows, cancellations of less than 30 days prior to arrival,
and early check-outs will be billed for the duration of reserved stay. Reservations should
be made quickly. We have already booked over 150 rooms [as of 6/25/01] and reservations
are still coming in strong. My advice is people should call as soon as possible.
BU: Am I correct in saying
that the municipal lot across the road from The Abbey will accommodate 85-90 motorhomes
with hookups, with an approximately 19' x 40' space for each motorhome? And that you have
additional on-site parking for RV's without hookups?
VJ: Your assumption is
correct. We are looking at approximately 85-90 spaces available there with another 20-30
spaces available in our parking area. The dimensions are approximate. Bobbi Wagner will be
engineering the RV reservations and will commandeer the space appropriations.
BU: Can international ABC
goers (Australia, England, Germany, etc.) make reservations online? Is there any place on
your online reservation form for them to indicate ABC affiliation? If not, can I give
international boxer fanciers *your* e-mail address?
VJ: Reservations can only be
taken by phone at (800) 558-2405 to our Reservations Department. However, in the event the
international guests are having difficulty, they may, of course, email me directly (vcj@abbeygroupresorts.com) with name, address,
telephone number, credit card number and the dates of arrival/departure, # dogs per room
and any special needs. The reservations will not be confirmed until they return a form we
will send to them. Then a confirmation number will be given and the room will be
guaranteed.
BU: You indicated in one of
your posts to me that The Abbey can provide "food supplies" should anyone run
out, or need to purchase some necessity on site. What kinds of supplies does The Abbey
sell? Do you literally have a grocery or convenience store on site?
VJ: We can supply food &
beverages to the rooms if you require. We have room service and can stock your room with
sodas, beer, etc. We do not have a grocery on site but can provide you with non-perishable
items if necessary.
BU: What is the weather likely
to be in early May in Fontana? Rain? Temperature?
VJ: The weather in May is
usually sunny and temperate. The temp is approximately 70-ish with some dates reaching as
high as 90. If you look on the Internet you can find the last 40 years worth of history
for Lake Geneva, WI in May. http://www.weather.com is a great site.
Hope I provided all the
information you needed, Virginia. Let me know if you require anything further! Thanks!
