A "NEW, IMPROVED" ABC!

Lots of positively "millenial" news from the ABC membership meeting, which was held on the evening of May 10th, 2000:

Boxers and Obedience

Nanette Hauprich, the 2000 Obedience chairperson, announced that Boxers are currently 4th in the Working Group in terms of obtaining obedience degrees!

Boxer Health

John Connolly announced that, after expenses, the ABCF auction had raised nearly $18,000 for the American Boxer Charitable Foundation!

That Elusive New Show Site

It was also announced that several new middle-of-the-country show sites have been proposed. They will be investigated by the Show Site Committee, who hopefully will have recommendations for the ABC Board at their Regional meeting in August.

The White Boxer Controversy - Resolved?

Kudos to a forward-thinking and courageous ABC Board, who voted 8 to 5 to give the entire ABC membership the opportunity to vote on whether to amend the Code of Ethics to allow Limited Registration of our white puppies, after their new owners have fulfilled the terms of a very stringent spay/neuter contract. In my nearly 30 years in the Boxer fancy, I can’t think of a single issue that has caused more bitter debate, hard feelings, and guilt than the ABC policy toward Boxer puppies that happened to be born more than a third white. The old fashioned notion that white Boxers have more health problems than their colored counterparts (with the exception of deafness) has long been discounted, and the Millenium has brought with it vastly changed attitudes about the way we treat our companion animals. Now let’s vote our breed and our club into the 21st Century!

YES! to E-Mail Addresses :-)

After a brief but heated discussion, those of us who consider the Internet a "second home" won the day: the members present at the meeting voted overwhelmingly to include e-mail addresses in the ABC Membership Directory. Hip-Hip-Hooray!!
